Driving 101: Reverse, Gears, Turns, Neutral, First Gear, Second Gear

Image
The trick in driving firstly, is to be calm and relaxed at all times. This is what I learned after the first two hours with my instructor. Don't let nerves get through you.  Breathe in and relax when you get behind the wheel.  Also, it pays for you to master footwork. Even when you are not driving always practice your left foot by imagining it pressing  clutch, and your right foot pressing break, and gas. You can also make an improvised gear stick so that you can coordinate your footwork with your arm movements.  This will help you gain confidence when you get behind the wheel.  I practiced my footwork first for an hour. Imagining me behind the wheel and driving.  Later, I imagined moving the gear stick according to my footwork.  It did help a lot in terms of making me feel more relaxed and feel more confident.  I also watched some youtube videos that made me feel  more relaxed and gave me more confidence.

So You Want to Learn Another Language?

Image
People think having the ability to speak another language is cool.  Well, it is cool, but they just don't realize the amount of work that is spent in order to be fluent at a different language.  Admittedly, there are many advantages in being able to speak other languages.  Nowadays, people who are bilingual, have more job opportunities.  When a friend of mine went to work in Korea, I told her while you are there, you should learn another skill.  I encouraged her to study Korean language, which she did.  She studied earnestly, until she became almost like a native speaker,  By the way, she stayed for almost six years in Korea, working different odd jobs.  Until one day, she saw in the Internet, one BPO hiring a CSR who can communicate in Korean or Hanguk.  She saw it as an opportunity.   So she searched some more openings and she found out that it is not just one BPO, there are more BPOs looking for Korean speakers.    ...

Must Floyd Mayweather Humiliate Manny Pacquiao?

Image
The fight that has made everyone, except me probably, excited about will finally happen on May 2 and for sure it will be the first of firsts, especially if Manny Pacquiao will knock Floyd "big-mouth" Mayweather out.  As we all probably know, both boxers have stunning records and have fought against the greatest fighters in the boxing arena.   Manny Pacquiao is  called "the Pambansang Kamao" or "the National Fist" (We Filipinos have a knack for catchy labels) for being the only boxer that fought in 7 different divisions and emerging victorious.  Although Manny suffered some defeats, which for me are quiet negligible, these do not erase the fact that he crossed different divisions and holds the championship belts in these divisions.  It's a clear sign of courage and determination.    Manny Pacquiao just needs somebody challenging enough plus, he is also an entertainer who wants peo...

Ms. Jamaica, Kaci Fennel, Wows the World

Image
She probably is not the typical beauty pageant contestant with her short-cropped hair, but boy she can carry herself regally.  Tall and shapely, Kaci hails from that nation where the music "reggae" originated.    A real dark horse, Ms. Jamaica was not even in most of the predicted top finalists, but her classy appearance, in the tradition of Hollywood beauties Audrey Hepburn and  Halle Berry,  wowed and impressed the judges.  Her modeling background did play a big role in her disposition.  Camera lenses just love her, they can't get enough of her.

When PFC Joseph Scott Pemberton and Jeffrey Laude's Paths Crossed

Image
We woke up again to a sad and shocking news in October 11, 2014.  Jeffrey Laude, a transgender, was found dead in Celzone Lodge in Olongapo City.  Jeffrey's lifeless body was found by the toilet bowl just minutes after he and his male companion arrived.  His male companion, who later became the suspect, was identified as PFC Joseph Scott Pemberton.  He was positively identified by eyewitnesses as the last person seen with Jeffrey.  During the initial investigations, Joseph Scott Pemberton said, 'I did something wrong."  He immediately sought counsel from a lawyer after that.

If I were a lawyer, I would...

... sue all immigration officers who suspect tourists of not returning back or to be guilty of trafficking drugs or what-have-you ... have no qualms of suing a fellow lawyer who would deliberately create circumstances that would delay trial or invent excuses that would cause for a trial to get delayed.   ... sue a judge who ruled in favor of the wrong-doer.   ... not accept any high-profile, risky case. ... sue any judge, politician, friend, relative who accepts money in exchange for favors in short, those that engage in bribery. ... give my services for free to victims of child abuse, rape, murder,  domestic abuse and other victims of injustice.   ... double my retainers and fees to my politician clients to offset my pro-bono work.. ...I would sue all tax-evaders and make them pay till the last centavo that they owe the government. ...push for divorce in the legislation (so that wives will all get half of their husbands' assets...

Kris Tells the Truth

Image
I have just read two articles all pertaining to the "big mouth' of Kris Aquino and Kris's pronouncements as to why blessings have been coming her way.   The first one talked about what positive things happened to the country when Kris, supposedly, stopped doing the big S, not shabu, mind you.  Of course, it was a satire with a big S too.  Poor Kris,  again, she succeeded in getting the ire of her haters.  It is just so like her to ignite the wick of the candle of hate.  Kris, as always, likes to test if her news-worthiness and her magic touch is still working.  Guys, what did you expect, she is the queen of all media, the local Oprah, after all.  And having a "big mouth" goes with the package, a really big one to accomodate a foot too.   People react differently to the antics of Ms. Aquino, and I say, you all bit the bait.  I have a feeling that Kris is an expert in mind-reading and a really, manipulative, sneaky diva....

What's Your New Year's Resolution?

Image
Happy New Year friends!!!  How did you celebrate New Year's Day?  I'm sure, like me, you prepared a lot for the New Year.  You prepared your favorite dish, desert, drink; wore your New Year's Day polka-dot blouse or red blouse, and other traditional practices that you have done during New Year's Day celebration.  The euphoria is over.  It's 2014.   And like the previous years, we made grand plans for the year to be right and perfect.    What do you plan to do for 2014?   I have made a list, and I made my objectives and goals here very specific because one of the things that I have learned in making objectives and goals is  to make them: S - specific M- measureable A-  attainable R - realistic T - timely So I made my new year's resolution really, really s-m-a-r-t and also wrote them in a more positive way.  Here goes: 1.  Buy only the things that I will use. ( I did not say to save, because to...

What to Prepare for Emergency Situations

Image
In the Philippines, natural calamities like typhoons and earthquakes are very common.  The Philippines get over 20 typhoons annually.  Some of these typhoons could be only Signal No. 1, the weakest type, but some could really be destructive just like the holocaust-like "Typhoon Yolanda" which damaged not only properties, but also killed thousands of people in the Visayas region, especially in Tacloban, Leyte.    Some people would have their own list of things to bring and do during emergency situations.   I guess that depends on what each one would prioritize.  It really does not matter, as long as people prepare for eventualities and most of all, as long as they have the presence of mind to get the things that they ought to get before tragedy happens.     I n preparing for emergency situations, there are two basic steps a: what to prepare in case a calamity strikes and what to do after the calamity, while in th...

Miley Cyrus: Love her or Hate her

Image
This is probably a subject that is so off-tangent.  What does Miley Cyrus got to do with a simple lifestyle ?  Na da, but she is newsworthy and whether you agree with me or not, Miley Cyrus has an enigmatic personality, bordering on extremes.  She is pragmatic on one hand yet, bold and daring on the other.  No wonder her fans adore her and her critics, well, you just have to think of a way to compete with her effectively.  We have to give Miley credit for her courage and bravery to perform stunts that totally breakaway from her wholesome image.  She knew that she would be criticized for her racy, almost pornographic performances, but she proceeded and gave a performance that people will never forget, well, people are still talking about her VMA stint after a month that she did that never-to-be-forgotten number, if that is not an achievement and a huge marketing success, I do not know what is.  You can criticize Miley for appearing on st...
